Mayfair Games closing down

The publisher of Catan, Agricola, Patchwork, and other such classics has shuttered its doors, with all its titles games being picked up by Asmodee. The purchase also included Lookout Games, a subsidiary of Mayfair which was acquired in 2013.

What this means for the continuity of their titles (which were being published as recently as last October) and – more broadly – the future of eurogames remains to be seen.

We’ll have a full article on this event later this week.

Quick Kickstarters

Dice Throne is back! The “heart-pumping, fast-playing game of skilled card play & dice manipulation” for a second season of characters – many of which I dearly note are non-white and female – and some even at the same time! Stand-alone and compatible with the original Dice Throne, this season steps away from the fantasy tropes and treads more ground.

Sonic Battle Racers! Sonic Battle Racers! SONIC! BATTLE! RACERS!

…I mean either you’re already completely sold or you’re not and there’s nothing else I can saw.

After the success of Mistborn: House War, Brandon Sanderson’s The Reckoners is being kickstarted. A co-operative game of magical urban fantasy superheroes based on the hit book series. Take out the villainous Epics and save the city.

Community Centerpiece

Board game website Creaking Shelves has a fun YouTube channel where currently they’re running a series called Which is Greater (hence the grater).

Have a look!
