Scythe airships expansion ready to print, Portal Game’s new 4X card game ready to print, and a sequel to Spiel des Jahres winner Kingdomino! All this and more in the Board Game News Brief.
The second expansion for one of BoardGamePrices’ most popular games of all time has been finalized and has now been sent to the printers.
The expansion’s main feature are the titular airships that can carry workers or resources (but cannot control territory). Each airship miniature is HUGE, and while airships will have different abilities each game, all player’s airships will share the same abilities, reducing confusion.
The expansion also comes with several new endgame conditions that you can shuffle in randomly or choose at your leisure.
The Wind Gambit is available for pre-order now and is scheduled to arrive in November. Meanwhile, you can check out Scythe to find out why it’s one of the most popular games on our searches ever, (hint: it’s really good) and the first expansion, Invaders from Afar.
Want new adventures, new foes, and to play as Luna Lovegood? Of course you do.
The Monster Box of Monsters has just been announced! It adds 150 new cards to your game, mostly creatures, but also encounters and locations – but don’t fear being overwhelmed. The new content is introduced over four new boxes that can be played separately just as in the core game.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle has received tremendous acclaim for its introductory deck building mechanics that slowly ramp up as you play through all seven stories. Check it out if you’re a fan of the series or co-operative deck building games.
Unsurprisingly, the 2017 Spiel des Jahres winner is receiving a sequel/expansion!
The sequel adds just a tiny dash of complexity and can be played on its own (player count: 2-4) or mixed with Kingdomino for up to 6 players OR with a grid of 7×7 instead of the standard 5×5. There’s also a dragon!
If you’ve not checked out this year’s SdJ winner, you can find it here.
It’s the tenth anniversary of Container! It’s been out of print for most of those ten years, so now we have the Container Anniversary Jumbo Edition!
A UFO has crashed near Blackwood Grove. Government Agents descend on the scene; but only the Kid can unlock the secrets of the Visitor. This is Visitor in Blackwood Grove.
A ten minute game for three to five players with a stunning art style, VISITOR (as its styling itself) is worth a look.
Finally we have an expansion/reprint: The Exiled: Siege with the Tactics expansion!
A game of siege and countersiege, the game comes with the option for miniatures or the cheaper wooden cubes, as well as fully co-operative play. Worth a look if you’re into the idea of fantasy castle crashing.
Portal Games is the publisher behind such hits as Robinson Crusoe, Imperial Settlers, Cry Havoc, and the about to be released First Martians. They have a YouTube series called Portal Games Informant where you can get a behind the scenes look at everything, and in this episode they announce that their newest game, Alien Artifacts, a 4x card game, has been sent to the printers! Ignacy and the rest of the Portal crew are well known for interacting with their fans and building a community. Have a watch.
